Health ProfessionalAyurvedaCoal Harbour/South VancouverLocated in beautiful Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada, West Coast Ayurveda is ready to help you take control of your health by giving you the tools to enable your own total Wellness for Mind, Body and Soul TM. Ayurveda is truly holistic in the sense that it looks at more than simply the physical body when considering the complete health of an individual. At West Coast Ayurveda, we understand that everyone is a unique individual, and as a result, we offer lifestyle and wellness counselling that is right for you and your body type in accordance with the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is based on the ancient knowledge that we all have three Doshas (elemental based energies) which reside in our bodies in varying degrees. When a person is in a healthy state, these Doshas are balanced in a harmonious, energetic tune that reflects the natural state of our bodies. In order to understand our natural, healthy state of being, we must understand our Ayurvedic body type. Vata, Pitta and Kapha are these body types-or the three doshas, or humours-of Ayurveda. SERVICES Ayurvedic Consultation ($108.00 - Includes 1, 2, 3 below) A consultation generally lasts for about one hour to 90 minutes, depending upon an individual's personal concerns and body constitution. It includes dietary recommendations, suggested meditation and relaxation techniques, and recommended yoga therapies specific to you. It will also include a detailed assessment of your Ayurvedic body constitution (Prakriti) through the ancient Ayurvedic practices of checking the hair, nails, teeth, eyes, pulse (and more) for indications of your specific health issues and the telltale signs indicating your unique body constitution. Once your Prakriti has been established, we will discuss any issues you may be having. Generally, people will inquire about lack of sleep, agitation, weight loss, anxiety, constipation, bloating, lack of focus, and of course-the big one-stress. 1 - Dietary Recommendations Based on Your Body Type (Included in Initial Consultation) In the West, it is common to count calories and to diet in order to lose weight. There is a common saying, “You are what you eat.” If you eat a lot of heavy, greasy, and fried foods, your body will inevitably gain weight and incur problems such as obesity and the associated risks. However, individuals may eat what is widely considered to be a healthy diet, yet they are still having problems with digestion or nervousness, and other complications. Overdoing things is never a good idea. According to Ayurveda, some very strict diet plans are actually more harmful than helpful to one's system. What is important in Ayurveda, is not simply what you eat, but to practice eating in accordance with the body type that you possess. In Ayurveda, it’s not “You are what you eat, ” but “You are what you digest.” A simple change in diet can work wonders for your total health and well-being. 2 - Meditation and Relaxation Techniques (Included in Initial Consultation) In this busy life, we often find ourselves running from one task to another. Some have demanding jobs, others have demanding children or partners, deadlines and commitments. These situations often lead to stressful experiences. Whatever the case may be, we rarely take time to relax and simply breathe. At West Coast Ayurveda, we will teach you meditation techniques that will enable you to calm your senses and alleviate the stress of everyday life. These techniques are based on ancient practices that have been tested for thousands of years. They are adapted for modern day people so that you will be able to perform them, and experience the benefits, without having to live a rigid yogic lifestyle. 3 - Yoga Therapies (Included in Initial Consultation) In modern society, we see yoga studios everywhere, and there are many types of yoga that one can learn. However, according to Ayurveda, it is important to remember to always perform yoga that is right for your unique body type.
